If you ever talk to someone who has visited Hungary, I am sure they will tell you about lángos, paprika and Balaton. For sure! Even me, if I had to (and could) sum up my hungarian experience I would use those words.
One hungarian friend once told me "Hungarian summer is the best summer you will live". At first, I was a bit uncertain about what he meant. But a few months later, under the hot sun in Agárd, I realized he was so right. The smell of fried fish, beer and sunscreen. The grass full of people sunbathing and kids screaming and jumping into the water. Our Tanoda kids, the kids we work with everyday, pushing us to the water and telling they would drown us. Well, the perfect set to built memories of the best summer. This particular set took place in a beach in lake Velence but could be placed in any other lake during the summer.
For the people here, going to lakes are part of a summer ritual, where they swim, relax, experience water sports, meet friends, have fun, eat and drink. They don't have sea and they value their lakes, their small beaches and those sunny routines.
Balaton is the most important lake of Hungary and that is why I told you this word would represent Hungary so much. With around 77km length, it is considered the biggest lake of Eastern and Central Europe. It is surronded by towns and villages, with amazing landscapes to offer. Tihany is located on the north marge of the lake and a walk up until the Benedictine Abbey, also called Tihany Abbey, surprises you with a fantastic view of the lake. Up there, you can imagine Balaton as a big sea and the white sailboats with adventurous captains ready to sail the world.

Se alguma vez falares com alguém que tenha visitado a Hungria, tenho a certeza de que ele(a) irá falar sobre lángos, paprica e Balaton. Certeza absoluta! Mesmo eu, se tivesse que (e pudesse) resumir a minha experiência húngara, usaria essas palavras. Um amigo húngaro disse-me uma vez "O verão húngaro é o melhor verão que vais viver". Inicialmente, fiquei um pouco incerta sobre o que ele queria dizer. Mas alguns meses depois, sob o sol quente em Agárd, percebi que ele estava tão certo. O cheiro de peixe frito, cerveja e protetor solar. A relva cheia de pessoas a apanhar sol e crianças a gritar e a saltar para dentro da água. Os nossos miúdos Tanoda, os jovens com quem trabalhamos todos os dias, a empurrar-nos para a água e a dizer que nos iriam afogar. Bem, o cenário perfeito para construir memórias do melhor verão. Este cenário em específico ocorreu numa praia no lago Velence, mas poderia ter ocorrido em qualquer outro lago durante o verão. Para as pessoas daqui, ir para lagos faz parte de um ritual de verão, onde eles nadam, relaxam, experimentam desportos aquáticos, encontram os amigos, divertem-se, comem e bebem. Eles não têm mar e valorizam os seus lagos, as suas pequenas praias e essas rotinas ensolaradas. Balaton é o lago mais importante da Hungria e por essa razão eu referi que esta palavra representaria tão bem a Hungria. Com cerca de 77 km de comprimento, é considerado o maior lago da Europa Central e Oriental. É cercado por pequenas cidades e aldeias, com paisagens incríveis para oferecer. Tihany está localizada na margem norte do lago e uma caminhada até ao mosteiro, também chamado de Tihany Abbey, é capaz de te surpreender com uma vista fantástica do lago. Lá no topo, podes imaginar o Balaton como sendo um grande mar e os barcos à vela brancos com capitães aventureiros prontos para navegar pelo mundo.
